Conclusion of opening sequence research.

Concluding, all the opening scenes have some parts in common, such as all of them leave the audience with several questions, which then makes the audience watch the film until the end and find out answers to the questions.

I would not say that there were scenes that differed a lot from the other ones. However, the opening scene for "Jaws"

was a little bit different because we never got to see the face of the main character due to the fact it all of this was shot using a Point Of View (POV) camera angle. Other than that I don't think that all the opening scenes had a pretty similar structure.

Talking about films that I used as examples for the genres, I believe that the most successful opening scene that I have done was an opening scene of the Western film called "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". It is due to the fact that there was used variety of camera angles to show who is who. It also had a very nice non-diegetic soundtrack that highlighted the genre of the film. The mise-en-scene in this opening I have personally found amazing. All the props and the costumes made it perfectly clear that the film is western and through a mise-en-scene, we could understand who is who (in terms of characters).

The least successful opening scene in my opinion was an opening of "Jaws" because to looked very similar to a thriller because it didn't really have violent or very scary scenes. I believe that the only thing that saved this opening scene was the non-diegetic soundtrack. It also to do with the fact that it differs from the other opening scenes. With a style especially, because we can not see how the main villain looks like.

However, on the other side, it adds a little bit of mystery which, in my opinion, would be good for the thriller opening scene, not for the horror.

I would add some unexpectancy in this opening so that the audience member would understand that it is a horror movie, not a thriller or anything to do with it.

Research into the western "The good, The bad, the ugly" opening scene.

Was directed by Sergio Leone in 1966, the studio that produced and distributed that film called Arturo González Producciones Cinematográficas, a Spanish distribution company.

The budget of the film was $ 1,200,000

Total gross was an estimated $ 25 million worldwide.

The main cast was:

An interesting fact about cast and filming itself:
In some sequences when Eli Wallach (Tuco) was doing anything with guns in most cases it was unscripted.

Continuing with an actual opening scene.

We are given scenes in the middle of the desert and in the town as well. We were also introduced to the main characters, all of them are wearing a typical cowboy costume (hat, boots, etc.). We also, most importantly are given scenes of violence and rudeness. From all given narrative, we can assume that the film will be set in the town near or in the center of the desert, also we can highlight the fact that in the film can very well be a lot of parts of violence and even some of the examples of an abusive language.  We can very well assume that the target audience will most likely be 18 years old and up men, maybe even older than eighteen. All of this due to the fact that every character that was introduced to use in the opening sequence of the film had at least one knife, so the film is already predicted to be violent.

The genre itself in this opening scene was shown through variations of technical areas, especially through a mise-en-scene. In this genre, I think that one of the most important suspects of Western film. In the opening scene, there were the majority of the main characters wearing cowboy hats, having guns with them. Location played a massive role as well. If all of this was set in the city center of New York for example that would not look very naturalistic or even like a western. We tend to associate western movies with a dessert, cowboys, a lot of guns, violence, scenes in pubs, all of that was clearly shown in this opening sequence. The sound played a massive role as well. It accented on the actions of (what we can assume) the main character.

There were introduced two main characters. It is clear that there are two main characters due to two factors: 1) He got most of the screen time in the opening sequence.
2) he was in the center of the frame for the major time of the sequence.

All we know about that main character is that he is a good guy, who helps the police. We can assume so by the fact that he gave police a criminal person who was wanted. e understood that through the same reasons and also by the choice of camera angles and camera composition. Every time when that main character was shown he either appeared in the center of the frame or in the first quarter of the screen. The second main character, however, is not so good, we can see it from all of the opening sequences, because the police were looking for him unlike the other one, and also the second main character was about to be purged in the opening sequence.

Continuing with a key moment, I chose to do the beginning part of the opening sequence. Because I think that in this sequence it is very easy to spot the genre of the film. At the beginning of the scene, we have an Establishing Shot (E.S) of the desert and a man who is riding a horse, we have a diegetic ambient sound of a horse. We have an Establishing Shot(E.S) that introduces us to the area -- the desert.  After a few seconds, we have another man in a frame, that is targeting a man on a horse with a gun. We have an over-the-shoulder shot, which still shows us the view and also shows us a part of a man with a gun. We can assume that the man. who was on a horse is one of the main characters due to the fact that any time when he is in the scene, he is either in the center of the frame or in the first thirds (rule of thirds). Talking about the sound we get a diegetic ambient sound and diegetic dialogue. We also get ambient sounds of gunfire. The beginning part of the opening scene is lacking an amount of no-diegetic soundtrack. However, there is one at the end of the beginning scene of the opening sequence. It suggests that something good has happened -- the second main character is now in the frame. We assume so by two factors 1) we can clearly see his face, unlike three other men in the begging of the scene; 2) we get a nice Extreme Close Up (E.C.U) of a first main character and a Close Up (C.U) of a second one. That shows us that the first main character is thankful to the second main character for saving his life.

To conclude, I believe that it was a fairly good opening sequence due to a number of factors. The use of sound, for instance, accented only the important parts, it did not highlight the parts that were not important. The lack of sound in some parts was a really good tool to draw the audience's attention, in my opinion. I also like the fact that this opening sequence introduced two out of three main characters, so it didn't tell us everything within the first few minutes, so you are as an audience member, still want to watch a film.

Research into the Science-fiction "E.T -- The Extra-Terrestrial" opening scene.

distributed in 1982 by Universal pictures. It was directed by Steven Spielberg.

The budget for this film was about $ 10.5 million and the box office worldwide was about $ 800 million.

                                   The main cast was:

An interesting fact about the film:

This film was the only nominee for The Best Picture Oscar in 1982 and was also nominated for the best sound effect, visual effects, and editing.

The narrative that is given to us is that there is an Unknown Flying Object (UFO) landed in the forest and there were aliens.

We have an idea of policemen coming to the forest and looking for the UFO and aliens, however, they do not find them, because by the time police arrive UFO is about to depart. In the end, every single alien lives a planet apart from one. In the ens of an opening scene, we have a Point Of View (POV) of an alien who was left behind. So, from all the narratives given we can assume that the alien who was left on the Earth is sort of an outsider. By that, we can assume that the rest of the film is going to be about how that alien is trying to go back to his planet and about all the troubles he is having on the planet Earth. I think that the targeted audience will be probably 6+ because the alien is not scary, it is nice and cute, although, you can't really see it. It is also due to the fact that the soundtrack in this opening scene was not very scary, and it is clear that the director did not want the audience to feel scared. It is also obvious through the use of mise-en-scene, it is not scary, it is more mysterious but in a good way.

It is clear that the genre of the film is mainly science-fiction. Because we have things that we don't normally see in the real life. Such as UFO or even aliens.  Science -- fiction film needs to include something that you can not see in normal life, something that is unusual to see. So, in this case, it is alien and the UFO.
However, during this opening sequence, we could not see an alien properly, however, we could see some parts of it by which we could clearly see that it was not a human being or any sort of animal.
In this opening sequence, we were introduced to one main character, from some of the posters we can see that there are going to be more characters introduced later on. We can assume that this is the main character because he is in the frame for the most part of the opening sequence. Also due to the fact that there was a POV shot only from his perspective, not from any other person or even alien. Also,m it was shown through the point that all the aliens left apart from the main one, so that suggests us as an audience member that the future plotline will be about that one alien. continuing with the technical areas that have helped to highlight exact this character as the main one, we can see that the non-diegetic soundtrack becomes either denser or calmer depending on how the main alien is feeling. We can not really see it through the use of a mise-en-scene, because throughout the opening sequence everyone who was involved in it was in a forest.

Continuing with analyzing, I decided to use the ending part, when the main alien was running away from the police and found a place where you can see a beautiful view. In my opinion, this scene shows the power of this alien and how he is scared. We can assume that he is scared due to a series of factors, one of them is a non-diegetic soundtrack. At this point in the opening, sequence music becomes denser, louder which suggests that the alien is very scared. Camera work also shows us that the alien is scared, a shot was taken by a hand-held camera movement technique, and normally all shots are either Close-Ups (CU) or just a Mid Shots (MS) but just of backs of policemen and alien, to show that they both are running and are in a rush. Continuing with editing techniques, I can say that. there's been used a lot of cuts, that normally suggests that the action is going at the same time. However, in this situation, it means that the camera changes from a POV  of where is an alien

to an Establishing Shot (ES) of how and where the policemen are running. By making a POV shot, while the alien is running shows how short is the alien because he is shorter than some of the leaves from bushes in the forest. As well as the soundtrack in this part of the sequence we have diegetic ambient sounds, typical sounds of what happens in the forest during the nighttime.

Concluding, I believe that it is a fairly successful opening sequence, due to the fact that it leaves us with a desire to continue to watch a film, with an interest even. Which is what the opening scene about. I believe that it also opens a little about the genre of a film, from the first seconds we can understand that it is going to be a science fiction film because we have an idea of the UFO and how aliens look like in Steven Spielberg's (director's) interpretation.

Research into the thriller "Doctor Sleep" opening scene.

Doctor sleep was distributed in 2019 and directed by Mike Flanagan, was produced and distributed by Warner Bros Pictures.

The total budget of this film was about $ 45 million and the gross was about $ 73 million.

The main cast was:

One of the interesting facts about the production of the film is that in total nine doors were made for the iconic scene from The shining (1980) but only one had to be used. Another interesting fact is that this film is based upon Stephen King's novel that has the same name. It was written in 1977.

The narrative that is given to us in the opening sequence is that there is a young girl who decided to go to the forest and there she found a woman who was singing, a girl came up to her and had a dialogue. The woman showed a young girl a magic trick. However, after a first magic trick behind the girl there slowly started to appear some people. Suddenly, the girl became scared but still stayed with a woman. At the end of the last trick, the woman grabbed the girl and quizzed it so the blood started to come out from a girl's hand. That is how the opening sequence ended. I think the rest of the plot will be about what happened to a girl, her parent's reaction, how they will find the girl, and if they will find a girl at all. Who is that woman, what is her main aim. I think the audience will find out the answers to all of these questions by the end of the film. I believe that the target audience is 16+ and mainly targeted at boys. It is all due to the fact that it is not that scary for an 18+ film, but it has a lot to think about even throughout the opening sequence.

I think that in this opening sequence we are introduced to at least one main character -- it is a mysterious woman. I am not quite so sure about the girl because it was not that clear at the end of the scene whether she died or no. However, for the first, opening scene this girl and the lady were the main characters due to several factors such as both of the characters were in the center or the only ones in the frame; when there were emotional parts both girl and lady were shown from a Close Up (CU) camera angle.

One of the key moments of this opening sequence that I have chosen is the ending part of it. When the girl starts to be more terrified and when woman's 'friends' start to come closer to a girl. As a lady grabs the girl's hand and her friends start to gather around both of them, suddenly diegetic dialogue changes on a non-diegetic condense soundtrack, however, it is not very loud, which makes the audience feel more uncomfortable and slightly on edge.  we also get a Close Up (CU) shot of a girl's arm being squeezed. During that part of the scene we also get a girl's eye-line -match with her arm, so we get a CU of the girl and straight after that we get CU of a girl's arm.

Concluding, in my opinion, this opening sequence was successful in a thriller film. Mainly due to the fact it leaves us (audiences) with many questions and we want to continue watching the film and the fact that it is mysterious but not scary like a horror film. It is cleverly done through the use of four technical areas which include mise-en-scene, sound, camera, and editing.  I would like to highlight the fact that in this opening sequence in major parts we either just had a diegetic dialogue or a lack of sound. It highlighted mysterious of everything that was going on and was also making us, the audience slightly worried about the main protagonist (e.g. young girl).

Research into the action "Mission: Impossible III" opening scene.

Mission: Impossible III was distributed by Paramount Pictures in 2006. The director of this film was J.J.Abrams.

The total budget was about $ 150 million

The world gross was about $ 400 million.

The main cast was:

An interesting fact about the film:

The interior of one of the character's house was based upon J.J.Abrams (director's) family house.

There not much narrative is given to us in the opening scene. But from what is given we can assume that the main character's being purged for some reason. From the given narrative we can only understand who is the main protagonist and possibly the main antagonist. We can assume this is a non-linear opening scene because we do not understand what and why this is going on, so we can assume the plot will tell us about how the main character got to this point and what will happen after the opening sequence.

From the actions from the opening scene, we can predict that the film most likely to be 18 + boys/men due to the high amount of abusive language, a lot of screams, purging, and blood. It is clear the genre is action, maybe even with some elements of mystery but it is definitely an action movie. We can see it through a big amount of purging, diegetic ambient sound of electro-shicker and gunfire and blood as a consequence of being bitten up. All of that is normally used in action films most of the time and what the audience tends to associate with action films. There also was a lack of a non-diegetic soundtrack or any sound at all, it also shows the fact that it is an action film because it tries to pay the audience's attention to dialogue and mise-en-scene.

I believe that in this opening scene we're introduced to two main characters. One of them is the main protagonist and the other one is the billion. We can get it through a mise-en-scene and camera work especially. Through camera work, we can see it by the fact that either of them is in the most tie of this sequence and also by the fact that the main villain is normally only shown through a slight low camera angle (a suggestion that he is bad) and that the main protagonist most of the time is shown through a high camera angle (to make him look smaller, unprotected). It was also shown through a mise-en-scene. The good guy was tied to a chair. However, the bad one was sort of dominating by stand up, being above everyone.

Talking about the opening scene for this film I decided not to pick any parts of this scene, I have decided to talk about this scene as a whole.

Throughout the opening scene the main good guy was shown only from a Close Up (CU) camera angle, even when his arm was shown, it was shown through a CU. It was all done to keep the intrigue and show what the main protagonist is feeling.

However, when the main villain is shown, he is shown either by using a CU camera angle or by using a Mid Shot (MS) all this is due to the fact that the director is trying to show us the villain is free, and that he has power over the good one, that the protagonist is dominating.

The other interesting feature is the use of sound. Throughout all opening sequences, there was a lack of any sort of non-diegetic sound. There were only diegetic ambient dialogue and ambient sound of gunfire. It was made to pay the audience's attention to the dialogue and the main character's response to it. Mise-en-scene suggests that it is a purge going on during the opening sequence. The chair where the main character is sitting used to be a doctor's chair. From the Establishing Shot (ES) we can see the room and we can assume that it is a basement probably of the house of the main villain. Interestingly enough there were barely editing techniques used apart from a cut. It is all because in this opening scene there was shown an action that was main, so there was no need to show anything else. The audience's attention was meant to be concentrated only on this scene, probably because this scene is going to be crucial for the whole film.

Concluding, I believe that this opening scene was a good opening for the action film. It had some elements of a typical action movie. Although, like any good opening scene it didn't show anything. This opening scene differed a lot from the rest of the opening scenes, due to the fact that this opening was non-linear. We, as an audience was sent right to the end of the film, which made the audience intrigued and confused straight away.

Research into the war "Apocalypse Now" scene.

 The "Apocalypse Now"

was directed by Francis Ford Coppola in 1979, the studio that produced it was Omni Zoetrope, the studio that was running for 51 years.

The budget of this film in total was about $ 31 million

The total gross across the globe was about $ 150 million, which leaves us with a $ 119 million profit from that film.

The main cast was:

                                                 Interesting fact about the cast:

During filming Martin Sheen ( played Capitan Benjamin) had a heart attack, however, he continued acting.

The narrative that is given to us, is that there is one main character. Who is throughout the opening is laying on the bed. We can also see the parts of the bombshells exploding, helicopters. As well as that we can see that the man is tired of fighting, probably from fighting the war, we can assume so, due to a gun laying on the bed, next to a man. We can also assume that the main character used to fight in the war by the editing technique -- dissolve/crossfade, so it gives us an idea that it is either connected to the main character or that it is flashbacks from the war I guess.  The film is most likely to be about life after the war, how the main character is trying to go on after the end of the war.

The target audience is probably men 18 years old and up. We can suggest so, due to the lack of feminine representative. We can suggest that the film will be 18 and up by the big amount of explosion, guns in the frame.

I can assume that the film will be about either war or post-war life by mise-en-scene created throughout the opening scene and by the mixture of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. The examples of diegetic sound used in the scene are the sound of a helicopter flying. Throughout the scene, it becomes intenser as the scene goes on. We tend to associate sound and the look of helicopter either with the war or with very rich people because as well as helicopter we are given several explosions in the scene we can assume that the film is going to be about the war. Talking about non-diegetic sounds we have throughout almost all opening scenes a calm song which tells about that something has finished and given circumstances of all listed above we can assume that the war is over for the main character (which is also shown in the opening scene). We also get a voice-over at the end of the scene that also tells us that the main character fought a war.

We can assume that there will be one main character in the film. This tells us several editing techniques as well as the idea of introducing the audience with only one character. One of the editing techniques that was used and made it clear that the film will mainly be about that character is a wipe. Also, the colors in both mise-en-scenes were dark and had a dark tone, which also has a connotation of something bad, scary, and sometimes even dangerous.

To work through that opening scene, I have decided to discuss some of the key moments in my opinion of the opening scene of "Apocalypse Now" film 1979. One of these moments is just the beginning of the scene. So, it starts with a black to fade editing technique, which suggests to us that it is either the next day after something, from what is the story going to talk about. It had a tracking camera movement to show some parts of mise-en-scene like the location. Talking about sound, in the beginning, we have a lack of sound, while we are having a black screen, after a moment we are starting to have an ambient, diegetic sound of a flying helicopter, that we can assume is flying around a space. We can make such an assumption, due to having noise first in more left par, after in more right and then in the center. And then, when we are finally given a location, the director introduces us to a soundtrack that goes throughout the scene. The other scene that I have decided to talk about is the ending, where we have most of the frame filled with the main character. In terms of sound, we get a diegetic sound of a helicopter that then sound bridges within a non-diegetic sound -- voice-over (VO). In this part of the scene, that technique is used to show what are the thoughts of the main character as he looks outside of his window. The mise-en-scene of this part of the opening scene is pretty cozy, comfortable, with a home, warm lighting. which suggests to us that it is the character's home. The camera is stabilized throughout that part of the scene, to show the importance of that character, which also once again accents the fact that in this film there will be one main character. In terms of camera angles used, there was used a Close Up(CU) to show the facial expression of the character, and also to pay attention to the beard and that he is drinking alcohol -- all of that connotes that the character is going through a rough time at that time in the film. The second was Mid Shot (MS) to shows the parts of props and the costume of the character connotes even more about rough times for the character. Continuing with editing techniques, we had a cut, to show the change of the state of character, from standing up to laying down. Eye-line-match was also used from the road back to CU of the character -- connotes that the rest of the scene will be about the character's emotions about that road/street.

To conclude, I believe it was a good opening scene for the war film. It clearly shows what is the film going to be about, it also (as it should) introduces the main character, you have a clear understanding of what you were just shown in the opening scene. Although, I would add a little bit more, perhaps some flashbacks of the main character being on the previous wars or maybe even fights. That would give the audience more information and a taste of the main character, it would also, however, show more of the war genre elements.

Research into the horror "Jaws" opening scene.

It was distributed in 1975 by MCA records, now known as Universal Pictures. The director of this film was Steven Spielberg.

The total budget of this film was about $ 7 million and the global gross was about $ 480 million.

The main cast was:

An interesting fact about the film:

Steven Spielberg called shark "Bruce" after his lawyer.

The narrative that is given to us is that there is something that lives deep in the sea and that there is a company of young adults who are having fun at a cost. One couple from that group of teenagers went to the coast the girl went to the sea for a swim at something that happened to her. It was never shown what has happened to her. That leaves us, an audience with a lot of not answered questions. This means that we can predict that the rest of the plot is going to be about finding out who is that mysterious monster and what is its aim. I think that the targeted audience for the following film is going to be boys 16+ due to the fact that there are things to think about, there are moments that are leaving the audience slightly on edge. However, I would not classify it as an 18+ film, because there were never shown any violent scenes that were to do either with blood or with something else.  The genre, in my opinion, is not really set up through an opening scene, I believe that through an opening scene we can get more of a feel of a thriller than a horror film. Mainly due to the fact that there were no scary moments in this opening scene at all, apart from the non-diegetic soundtrack, which made the audience feel slightly on edge. So, mostly due to the use of sound audience could feel that the film is probably going to be horror, but other than the non-diegetic soundtrack nothing really made this opening scene look like a horror genre.

Talking about the main characters, I believe that there was a slightly introduced the main character, however, the audience never got to see it throughout the opening scene. I believe that the only main character that was introduced in the opening scene was that monster from the sea. Because it was the only one on whom was made the main accent. It appeared two times within 3 minutes of the opening scene. However, any other character either died or was not shown that much in that opening scene. We know that it is the same character under the water as at the beginning of the scene because we have the same non-diegetic soundtrack within it.

Continuing with a scene, I decided to look at the whole opening scene, especially the parts when the main character is. Interestingly enough the main character is always followed with the same non-diegetic

soundtrack and it always has a Point Of View (POV) camera angle, so it makes it more mysterious, which makes an audience member even more on edge. We know that the main character lives in the sea because we see from the POV perspective that it only sees peoples part of the body that is only in the water and it only has the main view on what is in the sea (e.g, seaweed).
Another interesting thing from this opening sequence is that there is no non-diegetic sound at any time of it when everyone on the coast and everything is fine. However, once the water is shown and what is underneath water suddenly diegetic ambient sound or a diegetic dialogue changes on a piece of dense instrumental music. That is made to make the audience feel uncomfortable, slightly on edge.

Concluding, I believe that this opening sequence was fairly successful. It left an audience with a desire to continue watching the film, to finally find out who is the main villain and why it kills people.  There were some good uses of camera work, that showed some meanings through it. Although, the only thing that I would add is a little bit more horror-movie style thing. Because throughout the opening scene some of the members of the audience can get the feeling of more of a thriller film, rather than a horror film.

What is genre?

Genre -- main film category e.g. Action, horror, etc. It's mainly used for the audience and institution. For the institution to aim the film for the audience and audience, so that institution will earn more money.

Sub-genre -- is a film category within a genre e.g. cartoon-drama or dark fantasy etc. It is made for the institution to have more audience, so to have more money to earn. And for the audience to have a range of films to watch.

Hybrid-genre -- is a film category that consists of two or more main genres together. It is made for an institution, once again to earn more money and for the audience to watch more interesting films and to not get bored within the first minutes.

Associations with a genres:

Action:

Example of an Action film is 'The Fast and  The Furious' 2001. Directed by  Rob Cohen and filmed by Universal Pictures.

With an Action film, I associate lots of usage of ambient sounds of machineguns, guns.

A lot of users had held a camera filming technique. Lots of blood and lots of stereotypes about the man being stronger than women.

Horror:

Example of a Horror film is 'The Nun' 2018. It was directed by Chad Dossett. It was filmed by New Line Cinema and distributed by Warner Brothers Pictures.

More screams are used and I also associate horror films with a night, because most of the staff that is to do with a horror film narrative happens in the night
With a horror film, we tend to associate darker colours, sudden stuff happening to other characters, etc. More screams are used and I also associate horror films with a night, because most of the staff that is to do with a horror film narrative happens in the night

Science-fiction:

The example of a Science-fiction movie    'The Diabolical' 2015. It was directed by Alistair Legrand and filmed by XLrator Media company.
We tend to associate Science-Fiction films with a lot of spec effects(CGI) and hand held filming technique.

Romance:
A good example of drama in my opinion is 'Me before you' 2016, it was directed by Thea Sharrock and filmed by the New Line Cinema Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Sunswept Entertainment and distributed by Warner Brothers Pictures.
Associates with autumn, rain, Paris. Most of the times subverting stereotypes are used.

Associates with autumn, rain, Paris. Most of the times subverting stereotypes are used.

Thriller:
An example of thriller is 'Dark waters' 2019.  Director was Todd Haynes and it was filmed by DuPont studious.

We tend to associate thrillers with a lot of violent and a lot of ambient sounds of guns etc. Also it tend to have some bits of horror genre an.d tension is building all the time throughout the film

Western: An example of good western movie in my opinion is ' Hang 'Em High'  1968 it was directed by Ted Post and filmed by MGM Studious.

I associate that genre with cowboys, ropes, guns and old-fashioned  filmatography. With a lot of wipe transitioning, because that genre was really popular in 70s-80s.

Research into big film company.

In this post I will make a research about big film company, in this case Warner Brosers Pictures.

The studio first  came out in 1918 when four Warner brothers (Sam, Jack, Harry and Albert).

Sam and Jack were producing pictures, when Harry and Albert with other workers were doing financial staff.

At the moment it is all the world, however, in the beginning it was only in Burbank, California.

At the moment the owner of the Warner bros is the Warner Media and the owner of Warner Media is AT&T company. As well as Warner Bros, Warner Media owns 14 more companies, they are as follows: Adult Swim,AT&T SportsNet,Boomerang,Cartoon Network,Cinemax, CNN, Crunchyroll, DC Comics,HBO,HBO Max, TBS, TNT, TruTV, Turner Classic Movies,Warner Bros.
In my opinion the benefit of owning a lot of media companies is that: a) you spent less money on marketing

b) increases the numbers of audience, therefore, increases income

The Warner Bros studio was now running for  about 97 years now.

the top 5 biggest box office successes were:

1)the Harry Potter franchise -- they earned approx. 5.6 $ billion in total
it was making Warner Bros's profit from 2001 un till 2009.

2) Joker (2019)   Profit it made to a company was about 1.074 $ billion.

Director and the writer  was Todd Phillips.

Profit it made to a company was about 1.074 $ billion.

Top 3 grossing  Warner Bros films of 2019:

 1) Joker, already named movie, the genre of it was thriller. Budget spent on it: $ 55 million. Gross of 2019: $ 333,772,511

2) It:Chapter two. Genre: horror. Director: Andy Muschietti. Budget spent on it: $ 79 million.  Gross of 2019: $ 211,593,228

3) Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. Genre: adventure/family. Director: Rob Letterman. The budget spent on it: $ 150 million.  Gross of 2019: $ 144,105,346

as I made my research, I've noticed that Warner Bros tend to to work with number of directors and actors. Such as Christopher Nolah (director of almost 5 action movies, mostly based on DC comics); David Yates director some of the "Harry Potter" and both of the parts of the "Fantastic Beasts"; Tim Burton, director, tend to work on family/action movies and many others. I think that it is easier for the company to work with a directors who ones brought fame to the company.

Currently, the Warner Bros pictures have 21 films in pre-production and 15 of them have the date to be discussed, so the company still doesn't know whet it will be released. There are also about 40 films in total that are in postproduction, so they are just about to come out in the cinema.
The biggest advantage of the large institution in my opinion is that it has a larger marketing area, that therefore increases amount of income, because there is increase of audience, due to have large marketing area.
