What is genre?

Genre -- main film category e.g. Action, horror, etc. It's mainly used for the audience and institution. For the institution to aim the film for the audience and audience, so that institution will earn more money.

Sub-genre -- is a film category within a genre e.g. cartoon-drama or dark fantasy etc. It is made for the institution to have more audience, so to have more money to earn. And for the audience to have a range of films to watch.

Hybrid-genre -- is a film category that consists of two or more main genres together. It is made for an institution, once again to earn more money and for the audience to watch more interesting films and to not get bored within the first minutes.

Associations with a genres:

Action:

Example of an Action film is 'The Fast and  The Furious' 2001. Directed by  Rob Cohen and filmed by Universal Pictures.

With an Action film, I associate lots of usage of ambient sounds of machineguns, guns.

A lot of users had held a camera filming technique. Lots of blood and lots of stereotypes about the man being stronger than women.

Horror:

Example of a Horror film is 'The Nun' 2018. It was directed by Chad Dossett. It was filmed by New Line Cinema and distributed by Warner Brothers Pictures.

More screams are used and I also associate horror films with a night, because most of the staff that is to do with a horror film narrative happens in the night
With a horror film, we tend to associate darker colours, sudden stuff happening to other characters, etc. More screams are used and I also associate horror films with a night, because most of the staff that is to do with a horror film narrative happens in the night

Science-fiction:

The example of a Science-fiction movie    'The Diabolical' 2015. It was directed by Alistair Legrand and filmed by XLrator Media company.
We tend to associate Science-Fiction films with a lot of spec effects(CGI) and hand held filming technique.

Romance:
A good example of drama in my opinion is 'Me before you' 2016, it was directed by Thea Sharrock and filmed by the New Line Cinema Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Sunswept Entertainment and distributed by Warner Brothers Pictures.
Associates with autumn, rain, Paris. Most of the times subverting stereotypes are used.

Thriller:
An example of thriller is 'Dark waters' 2019.  Director was Todd Haynes and it was filmed by DuPont studious.

We tend to associate thrillers with a lot of violent and a lot of ambient sounds of guns etc. Also it tend to have some bits of horror genre an.d tension is building all the time throughout the film

Western: An example of good western movie in my opinion is ' Hang 'Em High'  1968 it was directed by Ted Post and filmed by MGM Studious.

I associate that genre with cowboys, ropes, guns and old-fashioned  filmatography. With a lot of wipe transitioning, because that genre was really popular in 70s-80s.
